Hey. Blog post number two here.
I’ve done some thinking about how I want to approach this blog and finally decided on dedicating a post to the previous week. My blog will start with a section focused on my professional web developer career and follow that up with a small write-up of personal experiences.
I am not very experienced in writing for the public; I'm beginning to realize how much organization is necessary in order to make a nice, concise post that includes everything that I want to cover. I need to start taking notes of things that intrigue me throughout the week to be better. I will be better. I hope you look forward to it.
Professional.
I’m biting the bullet. I’m putting the money on myself because I know I’m worth it. At the end of the day, this mentorship has value and deserves my money. I honestly am not in the best position currently but I enjoy doing this and embrace the challenge that I have ahead of myself.
I have done my own self-study when it comes to learning about web development, but I’ve only gotten so far. I’m taking this opportunity to fully embrace the mentorship I’m in and starting from ground zero even if that means a little review here and there. I appreciate going deeper into topics and picking up little things I never even thought to pick up on.
Perpetual education has taught me a lot about looking deeper into the simple things or maybe seeing the complex things as simple. Home pages always seemed advanced and contained a lot of material. In a sense, they do hold a lot of material. The idea of a home page is just a bunch of links gathered up so that people can access things they find intriguing. So as we dove deeper into HTML knowledge, we took it upon ourselves to make our home pages.
Cool right? Simple. Straight to the point. A bunch of links for things I would actually visit. It’s not the prettiest thing in the world but we’ll get there. 😉
Servers up. 40 love. 🎾
The servers are up.
I now have access to the Perpetual Education servers… you know what that means… All my current and future work can be found at peprojects.dev/alpha-4/Jesse!
I’m pretty excited to be able to have files online and shareable. Being able to show people my work gives me a feeling of validation and helps reduce the imposter syndrome demon.
The screenshot above is a snippet of my home page on the PE developer servers that provides links to all current work and work of my classmates in Alpha-4. The home page has a CSS file linked to the HTML. CSS is a styling language. This is what starts to make all the words on my websites look inviting and allow for creativity and design.
We wrapped up the week learning how to look at other people’s code on websites. It’s always nice to see how other people approach problems because they provide perspective. Learning is never-ending, perpetual, and that means that others will always be able to provide something I don’t know. Developer tools are super powerful. They let you see everything about a website without all the fancy toys and whistles. It feels like cheating in a way being able to see so much, but the good kind of cheating that you do for the right cause, myself.
It looks a little messy but learning just the basics of HTML and the idea of CSS gives you the knowledge to be able to break it down and pick up a thing or two.
Thanks to the PE website and Sheriff Derek himself I learned about how to use metadata in the head tag
. Being able to share files is cool but when sharing it comes with a little preview and title to go along with it, man does it feel good to look so good.
This is what happens when I send a link to someone through apple messages. 🤓
Personal.
Alright, cool. This is the part where I start to talk about some cool stuff I enjoyed this week. I watch a lot of films and tv; I’m no critic but I’d like to say I have a good sense of taste and opinion. I hunt for new music on Thursday nights, looking for the next hot banger to play while I take a shower.
The Batman.
Wow. This was the best Batman movie. Ever. Fight me. Something I really enjoyed about this movie is that it was a detective story first with a sprinkle of Batman to it. Matt Reeves did a great job directing this movie. There were a lot of cinematic shots that I thought were really inspirational [saving some shots for my visual-inspiration folder for future designs]. There is one overused filming technique used to portray fast movement that worked for some scenes but was a little wonky for others. The Batman them by Michael Giacchino is really great and gets better which each play in the movie. Car chase scene. That is all. Those five minutes were intense and had me on the edge of my seat. The subtitle to this post is a reference to this movie. I don’t want to spoil anything about it but the idea of your character and who you represent was pretty deep and I valued the story-telling of Vengeance.
Severance.
This is a show on Apple Tv that has me hooked every Friday. The premise is that a person willingly split their headspace into two people that switch places when this person goes to work. Taking work-life balance to the fullest. Who is the real you and is your work self just a slave to the outer world self? I love shows that make me question life and its meaning of it is. Cinematography that challenges concepts from a different perspective has a lot of value and I think it deserves to have the spotlight. Well, here it is.
Bad Bunny Concert at the Forum.
Look, I’m Latino. I like Spanish music. Reggaeton specifically is a hot commodity in music right now and for good reason, the vibe is unmatched. This concert was nothing to scoff at, this man is a performer, and hearing the songs live was a special moment. If you want to get a playlist that contains some great songs, feel free to reach out. I love making a playlist that flows and tells a story, something of a hobby I have.
Yo. See you next time!
Hey. If you made it this far, I appreciate you. This is still a work in progress and I treat it like a free speech text, so I try to write things as the way I speak them. Don’t know if it comes across perfectly but I think I’m doing pretty well if I do say so myself.
—Alright, for real see you on the next post.
completely agree about the batman.
watched it last night and it was an amaaazing experience. the best gotham yet, I was literally pulled in.
i too loved the aesthetics of the movie, the direction was so inspired and creative, on top of the amazing shots there were so many cool lenses that were used. i wanted to add it to my visual inspo folder too but idk how to break it up into images haha.
